Jessah's grandison nursing experience as a recaptured priority date

From Abandoned Nurse to Successful Deployment | USRN Jessah in Rhode Island, USA

Meet Nurse Jessa, her experience ranges from being a BPO nurse in the Philippines and has also worked as a nurse in UAE.

For tonight Jessa will share her USRN journey to Rhode Island. We have here some set of questions that we have prepared because as we all know a lot of nurses are contemplating right now whether they should pursue their American Dream because of retrogression or whether they should choose the United States versus other countries to practice their profession as a nurse.

Join us in another Grandison Espresso Lounge kamustahan with one of our deployed nurses in the United States — Nurse Jessah!

This is your virtual coffee table, a place where we catch-up with our nurses, PTs, OTs and partners. Here, we encourage everyone to share their voice and experience, to educate and inspire Filipino nurses and know that no #AmericanDream is impossible when you have the right partner and perseverance.

I’m Jessa, and I'm the first Grandison nurse deployed in Rhode Island.

Can you tell us about your USA arrival experience with Grandison?

We were 5 Grandison employees who came together and then there’s someone who picked us up at the airport in New York and then we went to the bank and processed our phone on our first day. Our second day, we rested as we were so tired from our flight. The third day, we went to the Grandison office for our orientation then on the fourth day we travelled to our assigned locations already. We just spent like three days in New Jersey, there was a staffing house. There were three bedrooms but we just used one bedroom because we wanted to get to know each other so it’s nice being with them actually!

What was your biggest challenge that you had during your first month of stay in the USA?

I think it’s the expenses because if you convert it, everything is expensive haha! However, Grandison had this benefit wherein you can take a loan and then pay after you already have your salary so it was a big help.

How was it in Rhode Island? Were you able to take advantage of the free housing accommodation provided by Grandison’s partner facility?

Rhode Island is one hour away from New York. And yes, I was able to take advantage of the free housing accommodation. I am actually the first one here but I am expecting to have a company soon here. Also, the accommodation is just walking distance to the facility so I did not even have to avail of car loan because even the car allowance for groceries is provided by the facility?

How did you prepare for your first day of work in the Skilled Nursing Facility? Were there any challenges?

The first month, it was pretty easy because everyone here is very accommodating and they offer to help me everytime. Even though there are not a lot of Filipino nurses here, I am happy that everyone is very helpful. There are educational lectures provided, so they show you everything before you get to them alone.

Do you recommend having nurse experience in the Philippines before going to the United States?

Of course having an experience in the Philippines is helpful, but if you do not have experience I think you can still make it here in the United States. Because they will not just let you do anything without training you.

What’s your advice to nurses aspiring to work in the United States?

Choose Grandison…aside from that you really have to search about everything and also if you do not have someone to contact here in case of emergency you can always contact your agency. Also, it’s important to be ready in terms of expenses because it can be expensive and I think it will be much easier if you come here first alone and then let your family follow you after adjusting.

How was your experience with Grandison overall?

Actually I am very thankful to Grandison. I have a prior agency but I got abandoned by my first employer. And when I applied to Grandison, they just asked me to send everything, all the requirements and then they processed everything really fast. I appreciate that you have someone assigned for specific tasks like for example, there’s someone who is assigned in fixing your CGFNS documents, there’s a deployment coordinator and then there’s someone assigned with your license endorsement that you can follow up anytime. And I am very thankful with the facility because they are really kind and supportive.

If you are a Filipino nurse aspiring to work in the United States, you too can be the next successful deployment of Grandison!
